Demi Lovato certainly proved she was Unbroken when she took the stage at the 2012 People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday night (January 11). The former Disney princess dazzled the room with a spirited rendition of her song “Give Your Heart a Break.”
In a bright red dress (with matching red hair), she took the stage and belted out her Unbroken track. Instead of going flashy and over the top, the singer let the song rule the performance and kept it simple, taking the stage with just her band.
After her performance, she accepted the award for Favorite Pop Artist and had many kind words for the fans who helped her beat out the likes of Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Beyoncé.
“Thank you guys so much” she said. “This award is amazing. The nominees that I was up against are people that I look up to and aspire to be one day, and I won this award because of my fans. So I dedicate this to you guys. I love you guys so much. Without you guys tweeting so many times, I wouldn’t be up here tonight. So thank you guys so much. You guys are so amazing.”
“Give Your Heart A Break” is the singer’s second single off her album, which dropped last fall. “I think it’s grown-up, but it’s not too grown-up,”Lovato told MTV News in September. “It’s not tasteless. It’s growing up with my fans. It’s [like] I’m not a kid anymore, but I’m also not a full-grown woman either. So I’m in that in-between stage, trying to figure out where that is. So I’m figuring it out, just like my fans are.”
