Demi Lovato has admitted that she greatly admires Taylor Swift for being a true songwriter who doesn’t have to pen tracks purely for “shock value,” revealing that she wants to “respected as an artist” just like the country songstress.
The ‘Neon Lights’ singer is adorned by millions of fans who admire her no-nonsense attitude and stunning vocals making it no surprise why her latest album ‘Demi’ topped the Billboard charts in the US, and the X Factor USA judge explains why she would rather be known for her talent as opposed to being tabloid fodder.
“I don’t really care because those things don’t apply to my life at all. A good example of that is Taylor Swift. We’ve had conversations about this where I’m like, ‘I have so much respect for you as an artist because you don’t have to write about that stuff,” Demi told Entertainment Weekly.
“She’s like, ‘Well, I don’t go out.’ I don’t go out to clubs and I don’t party and to me, it says more when you don’t have to do things for shock value. You’re more respected as an artist. And that’s what I want to be, I want to be respected as an artist and not a tabloid headline.”
Demi, 21, also shared her thoughts on Miley Cyrus who has rarely been out of headlines this year whether she’s twerking at the MTV VMAs or smoking on stage at the EMAs, putting her in the line of fire from critics, however, her pal Demi says that the public need to “get over” the fact that she has evolved from her Hannah Montana Disney era.
“I think that the world needs to get over the fact that she was Hannah Montana when she was 16. I guess my transition was a little easier because I went straight to rehab. I didn’t twerk, I just went to rehab,” Demi told Katie Couric this week.
“I think she knows what she’s doing. A lot of artists take that route of shock value, and that’s totally fine and that’s great. But I think she has such an incredible voice that’s overshadowed by some of the things that she’s doing.”
She continued: “It’s her journey. She’s having fun. She’s being who she is. I’ll always love her. She’s been one of my friends since I was 14. But everyone is on their different journeys right now and she’s doing that and she’s having fun… so power to her.”
